Kitsune & Ochiba
Kitsune (Fox Spirit) possesses the elemental fire power, and it is said that when she shape-shifts, she places Ochiba (Fallen Leaves) on her head. This piece captures her the ethereal moment of transition and transformation, surrounded by fallen leaves.
As a child of the 90’s, I was raised on Japanese anime that drew inspirations from a plethora of Asian folktales such as the Kitsune & Ochiba. According to the Yokai folklore, Kitsune has the ability to present herself as a human, usually a beautiful woman who possesses supernatural power, cunning, and wisdom. Often, she was a force that brought destruction to the human realm either through wars and/or seduction of the human leaders to create divisions. The most famous Kitsune is the 9 Tail Fox featured in countless Japanese & Chinese literatures such as Tamamo no Mae, or the most recent Naruto manga/anime series.
