Exploring the ancient Greek folklore of Demeter and Persephone. The kidnapping and eventual release of Kore (Persephone’s ancient Greek name) by Hades ushers in an endless cycle of Spring and Winter equinoxes. A transformative journey creating an intricate balance of life, death, and rebirth that guides every aspect of our lives.

Nevertheless, such seamless balance is built on the sorrow of a mother (Deo - Demeter’s ancient Greek name), and the terror of her daughter. Symbols of white feathers, reddening foliage, and two face portraits in opposing colors are painted inside a turning wheel to represent this precarious equilibrium. Whichever way you turn, one equinox begets the other like a constant Bloom that completes the cycle of past, present, and future.

This painting is a set with Bloom watercolor painting that debuted at the Society of Illustrators' Flourish Exhibition, 2021.
